He started to study music in 1997 and 7 years later moved to Campinas\, Sao Paulo State\, where he completed his Bachelor’s degree at the State University of Campinas. Since then\, he has recorded around 20 CDs and 5 DVDs and has been one of the most required gigging musicians of that region. He has had the opportunity to record and perform with Nailor “Proveta” Azevedo\, Ivan Vilela\, Maria José Carrasqueira\, Teco Cardoso\, Léa Freire\, Alexandre Ribeiro\, Fábio Peron\, André Marques (Hermeto Pascoal)\, Tibô Delor\, and others. \nIn 2010 he won the first prize of a drum-set competition in Tatui\, Sao Paulo State\, overtaking more than 50 players\, which gave him the scholarship to study for a week with the Grammy award winner Edu Ribeiro (drummer of Trio Corrente). Augustinis was also elected the best performing musician of that festival. In 2012\, with the “Rafael de Lima” Quartet\, won the nomination for the best original college composition published by the Downbeat Magazine. In 2012\, he was sponsored to present a workshop about Brazilian music at The University of Miami\, Florida and in 2015 had the same opportunity\, this time at the University of Cincinnati\, College-Conservatory of Music. \nIn 2016\, Augustinis moved to Iowa City to pursue a Masters of Arts degree at the University of Iowa\, where he also has worked as one of the jazz department’s teaching assistant. In Iowa\, he has had the opportunity to play with several musicians\, such as Damani Phillips\, Steve Grismore\, John Rapson (Hot Tamale Louie and Johnson County Landmark)\, Jim Dreier (Orchestra Alto Maiz and UI Latin Jazz Ensemble)\, Brian Lynch and Melvin Butler. \nIn the Spring of 2018\, Augustinis released his debut album as a composer\, entitle Sunrise. The album features all original compositions and arrangements by the drummer. Also that year\, Augustinis completed his study at UI\, earning a Master of Arts degree. In 2019 he started a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at The University of Texas at Austin\, where he is also working as a teaching assistant in the university’s jazz department. At UT Augustinis has performed in clinics and concerts with musicians such as Ernie Watts\, Mike Sailors\, and Joe Lovano.
